Professor Layton Addiction

Glancing up from my adventure with Hershel I catch a glimpse of the time…00:11.

“Damn, is that the time?” I ask myself. I’d been playing Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box for the last three hours. My cup of tea had gone cold and it’s way past my bedtime. Oh dear, I’m an addict of Mr Layton.

I should know better. I know it’s important to take regular breaks from a game as recommended by the developers, a good 5 minute break every hour during any activity is good practice. Too much of anything is rarely good for you.

Regular exercise is good for you therefore I consider that playing Professor Laytons’ adventures is exercise for my brain. It helps me focus, think laterally and solve problems mentally such as arithmetic. That's just the sort of thing an addict in denial would say, no?

I must remember stop playing for long periods and limit playtime to an hour a day. In fact I sometimes find that when stuck on a puzzle (as I often do), if I sleep on it I usually have some sort of enlightenment and find a solution to the puzzle the following day. This is an interesting phenomenon that has happened several times.

So take a break regularly from your game(s). Also ‘sleep on it’ if you get stuck because you’ll feel so proud of yourself when cracking a particularly difficult puzzle without cheating.

Well then, back to it…
